Abstract

A discussion with U.S. Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli Jr., about his tenure as the 46th Solicitor General of the United States.

As Solicitor General, Verrilli has argued for the United States in National Federation of Independent Businesses v. Sebelius, Arizona v. United States, United States v. Windsor, and numerous other cases. Prior to succeeding Justice Kagan as Solicitor General, Verrilli served as Deputy Counsel to President Obama and as an Associate Deputy Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice. Before his government service, he was a partner for many years at Jenner & Block, and co-chaired the firm’s Supreme Court practice.

The Solicitor General is joined by UMN Law Professor Mark Kappelhoff who is currently serving as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division.
